I don't know why I didn't rate Stirring the Plot 5 stars. Maybe it was the fact that the murderer was revealed in a fairly welcome but slightly humdrum way. I did guess the culprit's identity. But the small minutiae of the daily life at Crystal Cove masked the clues pretty well. Even if I didn't catch on all the clues in the book, I was fairly confident of my guess. This just might be the perfect Halloween cozy! I love it when you can connect to the characters and actually feel the scenes they are in. Daryl Wood Gerber's descriptive writing is dead on in, "Stirring the Plot." I liked that the author incorporated elements of Halloween in a unique way, as she did with the Winsome Witches. Although this is the third in the series, it is the first one I have read. I was able to jump right in. If I could rate more than 5 Stars, I'd give this cozy mystery a 10!! Savor it to the last sentence! It's Halloween week in Crystal Cove, CA, and Jenna Hart, owner of The Cookbook Nook, a culinary bookshop, is preparing for the annual Winsome Witches Faire for literacy, plus several other spooky events being held around town. Jenna and her Aunt Vera have many friends and are well-liked in the community. If you're superstitious; about black cats and walking under ladders; Crystal Cove might not be the place for you right now. Tragedy strikes, as the death of the High Priestess of the Winsome Witches, (who, by the way, aren't real witches), casts a pall over friends, family, and business owners who knew her. She was also a respected therapist. Suddenly, there appear to be many people who could have had means and motive to kill Pearl; especially if they'd trusted their darkest secrets to her in counseling sessions. Thus, begins this bewitching tale that leads you from clue to clue in a maze that leads to a dead-end almost every time. I would write down a suspicious character's name with a question mark out beside it, and my guess would be proven wrong. In the end, it all makes sense. Spectacular writing by Daryl Wood Gerber, showcasing full attention to all details; captivating dialogue; and enthralling characters. You'll want to set aside plenty of time to read this delectable cozy mystery in one sitting! I received a copy of this book from the author. I'm voluntarily posting an honest review.

This is the third book in the Cookbook Nook Mystery series. This one is packed full of details. Jenna Hart, owner of the Cookbook Nook can't help but feel she must help to find who murdered her friend. As I read the book, I found myself getting a little irritated by the fact Jenna suspected each of the Winsome Witches in turn, sure that the one she was suspecting had to be the murderer. It kept the story going along well. When she kept jumping to these conclusions and often confronting her suspect brazenly, I wanted to tell her to keep her mouth shut! She becomes closer to Aunt Vee and her father and her love interest is developing nicely. Of course, the recipes are wonderful and what's not to love about a shop that sells cookbooks especially to a collector of them like me.

The characters and setting are well defined and the murder plots are really twisted with lots of clues and red herrings. This is the third book in this series of six. They all have wonderful recipes that will have you running to kitchen to try them. A must read for any cozy fan!

I just love this series and the Halloween story did not not disappoint! I'm really loving that Jenna and Rhett's relationship is growing and that finally her investigation has led to something good as far as he's concerned--you'll find out about that at the end of the book! There were lots of great plot twists so I had no idea till the reveal who to really suspect. This was our October book discussion in one of the Facebook groups I'm in and we had a great time discussing it. I highly recommend this series and anything else by this author!

I believe this is my favorite Cookbook Nook mystery to date. Daryl Wood Gerber takes us on a journey of twists and turns in this Halloween mystery. Between trying to figure out what is wrong with Aunt Vera's "abilities" and all the secrets that turn up at every corner, Jenna has her hand full with the Winsome Witches. Each book has been more engaging than the last. Daryl Wood Gerber has created such a colorful cast of characters and potential killers that you don't want the story to end. I love Katie, the chef. She would be so fun to hang out with! Also, there was an exchange involving the characters Jenna the book protagonist, her father, and a gent names Jake that just tickled me. "Good day, Jenna," Jake said. "I hope you have wonderful things planned for yourself." It was Jake's standard line. "I do, sir, and you?" "Haven't gone but one day without doing something that pleased me." That one day was the day he buried his wife. "Have at it, Cary," he yelled to my father. "Have at it," my father echoed. That's all we get to see of Jake in this story, but I hope we get to hear from him more in future books. Fin interactions like this are just one of the reasons I enjoyed this book. They mystery in this one had me stumped. There were so many people who could have wanted the victim dead. And of course, I guessed wrong. I can't find any real negatives about STIRRING THE PLOT, and I wasn't really looking for any. If I had to point out one thing though, it would be the repetitiveness of the clues. I know they have to be gone over, but I felt it may have been done one too many times, I would much rather seen that time spent on other parts of the story. Maybe more to do with the Cookbook Nook itself. That being said, it sure didn't bother me enough to keep me from wanting to read the next book! I love this series. And if you enjoy a good mystery, and very likable characters, you're going to love it too!

With the town getting ready for Halloween and the Winsome Witches prepping for their annual fundraiser, everything seems witchier than normal especially when the Head Priestess of the Winsome Witches is suddenly found dead under mysterious circumstances and Jenna finds herself once again in the middle of everything. With plenty of blame to go around, it's amazing how quickly everyone in the group is willing to point fingers at each other. But when her own aunt becomes a suspect, Jenna finds it hard not to try to and get to the bottom of it. Especially since Aunt Vee won't stop acting as strange as this entire case. I like this story for Halloween, it was a great read and I savored every bit of it. The story was exciting enough, the mystery kept me hooked and guessing until the very end. The romance between Jenna and Rhett is headed at the right place. I love these two together, they are really adorable. Gerber with her small town characters and writing really knows how to pull people in. Crystal Cove sounds like an exciting place to live along with it's colorful cast of characters and the little bookstore that Jenna owns. I love that she has incorporated so much into it, including cooking and cooking classes. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely. I did have one small problem with the story. I was actually surprised and taken back by the amount of finger-pointing.. From my understanding these people are suppose to be good friend's, but it was amazing how quickly they kept turning on each other and blaming one another about the murder. The accusations, the assumptions, made my head swim. But I can get past that, because I enjoyed everything else.

Jenna and the townspeople of Crystal Cove are plunged into a search to find the killer before they strike again. Like many cozies the blame gets thrown around from person to person and Gerber does a splendid job having the characters point fingers at each other. I love this because Gerber kept me guessing throughout the whole book. She is especially good at putting in small points that can cause you to flip your suspicions about characters constantly. Gerber makes you want to be part of the story. She takes you right to Crystal Cove and makes you fel like you are right there staring out at the ocean from Jenna's cottage window. The characters become friends who you miss when you are waiting for the next book to come out and Gerber grabs your attention from the very beginning and takes you through the twists and turns of a great mystery I absolutely give this book a five star review and hope this series continues for a long time. ***I received this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review***

With the end of the tour, there was also a planned ceremony to induct the newest member, Emma Wright, who will then serve as handmaiden to the High Priestess for the next year. But before the ceremony can be started, Pearl and her daughter, Trisha, have a very public argument, bickering over the famed Thornton Collection, an invaluable collection of rocks and gems. When Pearl's body is discovered the next morning, and a piece of the Collection is missing and subsequently found in Trisha's backpack, it seems an open and shut case. But Trisha claims to have a solid alibi for the murder and now there are several other possible suspects. When Jenna's aunt comes under suspicion, she knows that once again she has to investigate on her own and pass all the information on to the police, whether they want it or not. This is a fun series, with delightful characters. I enjoy the relationship Jenna has with her friends, coworkers, and family, including her retired FBI father. I think I found a new series to read because of the theme and the characters are interesting. I cant wait to see if Jenna continues in her relationship and her life.

This is the first Cookbook Nook Mystery I have read in this series by Daryl Wood Gerber and I really enjoyed it! The book is very well written with lots of twists and turns in the plot that kept me guessing until the very end as to who actually committed the murder of Pearl Thornton, the Head Priestess of the Winsome Witches. Because Jenna Hart and her Aunt Vera own and operate a store that specializes in cookbooks, kitchen utensils and gadgets, and even offers cooking and baking demonstrations, This is the first Cookbook Nook Mystery I have read in this series by Daryl Wood Gerber and I really enjoyed it! I highly recommend this book to mystery lovers and readers who enjoy spending time in their own kitchens, and who doesn't love to eat? I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review and I know you will enjoy it just as much as I did.

I received this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. This book is the third book in the series of A Cookbook Nook Mystery. It is best to read them in order, but not necessary as she does a wonderful job of developing her characters. The "witches" are such a great group of women, all with their own little secrets. It really keeps you second guessing until the end. The recipes look wonderful and can't wait to try some. All in all a delightful read for this time of year!

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review. I have been reading this series from the beginning, and this book just adds to the depth of the town and characters. Our heroine, Jenna Hart, has come a long way from the widow that arrived in Crystal Cove. The Halloween events in town sound great, and I really wanted to check out The Cookbook Nook to see what was on display and to try all the food in the cafe. I really loved Jenna's reaction to the Winsome Witches, the local I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review. I received a copy of this book for an honest review. This is the third book in the Cookbook Nook Mystery. While I haven’t read the first two, the story was written in a way I wasn’t lost. The town of Crystal Cove is getting ready for Halloween, the Head Priestess of the Winsome Witches is found dead. When Jenna Hart’s aunt is one of the suspects, Jenna must find the real killer. While I normally don’t go for paranormal books, I wouldn’t count this as one and if you love books with the Halloween t I received a copy of this book for an honest review. I REALLY want to like something by this woman, either under this name or as Avery Aames, but hard as I've tried I just don't. I had high hopes for this one since it had a Halloween theme, but no go. It's a 2-1/2 star read at best for me, but I'm going up to 3 because Mr. Wood Gerber seems like such a nice lady. I don't like Jenna, or her aunt, and the stories just never grab me. The Winsome Witches was a marginally cute idea, but the rocks and stuff just lost me. Maybe she'll write another serie I REALLY want to like something by this woman, either under this name or as Avery Aames, but hard as I've tried I just don't. This is the 3rd book in the Cookbook Nook Series and my 1st time for me reading a book by Daryl Wood Gerber. I wish I could give it more than five stars. It is the perfect Halloween mystery. Very Hard to put down The small town of Crystal Cove has gone to the witches, a few black cats and a howling dog. There is a also a murder and missing rocks. Aunt Vera her powers go on the fritz and Jenna is knee deep in trying to solve the murder There are scrumptious treats mentioned through out the book th This is the 3rd book in the Cookbook Nook Series and my 1st time for me reading a book by Daryl Wood Gerber. This is the third book in a wonderful Cookbook Nook series. You will not be disappointed with your purchase of this book and cozying up with it. Even with a Halloween theme it would be one to grab at anytime of the year. You will not be disappointed with the twists of a murder, a little romance and wonderful recipes that leave you wanting more. Stirring the Plot is a tasty way to spend an evening. If you love cozies, cookbooks, and cats this is the perfect series for you!!! Halloween is my favorite holiday and in this 3rd book of the Cookbook Nook series Jenna and Aunt Vera find themselves looking for a killer. Along the way you will see wonderful costumes, window displays, and a plethora of cookbooks. Don't forget to stop and savor all the fantastic food.

I absolutely LOVED this book! I love this series and this book was my favorite! I couldn't put it down! Jenna Hart moved back to Crystal Cove, California, to help her Aunt Vera run her bookstore, the Cookbook Nook. Everyone is getting ready for the Halloween festivities when someone is murdered. Against their better judgment, Jenna and her aunt try to solve the murder. I highly recommend this series. Ms. Gerber does not disappoint. She hit it out of the park! :)

I do not have much to say about this one. I had never read any of the other books in the series. I dont feel like I was missing anything from any previous book however. I just became bored. I could not get into the story the way I should have. I had been looking so forward to reading this one. The cover sold me immediately. I may try and read this again another time, another Halloween and see if I feel any different.

I loved this book! The mystery was fun, the Winsome Witches was a nice touch to the Halloween plot and I' moving the relationship building between Jenna and Rhett. And there were a couple of 'thrills' for me with the passing references to Disney. Cozies are one of my loves, another is Disney!
